Too Little Magnesium In a Coma?

Dr. Julius Caesar “Jules” Stein (1896-1981) was one of the most influential men in Hollywood.

If the average Joe or Jane were to go into a coma, it’s guaranteed that a minimum of eleven medical doctors wouldn’t convene to suss out the crisis.

Even less likely is that these eleven doctors would diagnose a magnesium deficiency.

Kathleen Sharp (Mr. & Mrs. Hollywood: Edie and Lew Wasserman and Their Entertainment Empire, 2003) wrote …

“In the midst of all this [MCA power struggle], Stein fell seriously ill. ‘That was even more amazing than the coup, as Jules was practically dying,’ said [Berle] Adams. In the fall of 1969, Stein suffered intense intestinal pain and wound up in UCLA’s Medical Center. Publicly, he was said to have verticulitis, an inflammation of the digestive tract. But exploratory surgery revealed that Stein’s cancer had reappeared. His rectum and intestines were inflamed by so many malignant tumors that doctors did not expect the seventy-five-year-old to survive. One doctor used an experimental drug that seemed to halt his pain. But then his kidneys shut down. ‘Every doctor and organ specialist was brought in to monitor his organs and to counteract whatever side effects this new drug produced,’ said Adams. Stein underwent surgery again in January 1970 and seemed to improve. But a few weeks later, his condition worsened and he underwent a third surgery. By February, he was slipping in and out of comas, barely hanging on to life.

“Stein’s daughters were called in from New York, and his siblings appeared at his bedside to say good-bye. Doris [Stein] asked UCLA’s Dean Murphy to write Stein’s eulogy, and she reviewed her husband’s elaborate multipage funeral instructions — the same ones he had prepared in 1957 when he first fell ill. Stein’s grave condition presaged more internal turmoil for MCA.”

According to the same source …

“Then Stein had an amazing comeback, said [Lew] Wasserman. ‘Some young doctor had the idea of giving him a shot of magnesium.’ All Stein needed evidently was an essential trace mineral, which was added to his intravenous drip. Within a week, MCA’s chairman was up and reading his stock charts in the Wall Street Journal.”

That was in early 1970. Jules C. Stein hung around till April 29, 1981, three days past his eighty-fifth birthday.

Dennis McDougal (The Last Mogul: Lew Wasserman, MCA, and the Hidden History of Hollywood, 1998, 2001) wrote …

“As Berle [Adams] prepared to leave, Jules Stein unexpectedly emerged from his coma. Dr. [Eliot] Corday had convened eleven of the finest physicians in the country to help him work a miracle, and after months of monitoring, testing, discussion, and study, one of Stein’s specialists finally determined that the essential element that had leached from Stein’s system during his antibiotic ordeal was magnesium. The doctors added the trace element to the intravenous drip and worked out a protocol that would balance Stein’s body chemistry, giving him one more chance.

“Within a week he was sitting up, drinking milk shakes that Doris sneaked past his nurses, and catching up on the stock market.”

How did Celluloid City get its inordinate power?

The Windy City and Foggy Bottom were responsible.

The major credit goes to four men …

Llewelyn Morris Humphreys (1899-1965) and Antonio Leonardo Accardo (1906-1992) in Chicago

Richard Milhous Nixon (1913-1994) and Ronald Wilson Reagan (1911-2004) in Washington

    Read all about it …

Two ways to make cholesterol …

    1) saturated fat

    2) simple sugars

PUFAs and HUFAs block cholesterol synthesis.

    <>

    Cancer doesn’t burn sugar.

It transforms amino acids into sugar and then into fat, which it burns.

Cancer burns so HOT doctors can detect it by its heat signature.

    <>

Cancer especially loves the amino acids glutamine and arginine.

Cancer walks big circles around uric acid (including the uric acid in urine).

L.H. Danse & P.M. Verschuren (“Fish oil-induced yellow fat disease in rats,” Veterinary Pathology, Jan. 1978) wrote …

“Yellow fat disease was induced in young rats given a vitamin E-deficient diet supplemented with 15% fish oil. The changes in adipose tissue of this oil-induced disorder were different from those of natural yellow fat disease in horse, pig and mink. In the natural disease all fat depots had the early stage of yellow fat disease with interstitial lipofuscin-laden macrophages exclusively. In the rat, however, this change was seen only in the subcutaneous fat depot. Moreover, affected adipose tissue of animals with natural disease had extensive fibrosis, but in the rat fibrosis was always absent. Rats with fish oil-induced yellow fat disease had degenerative changes in various fat depots that occurred at various times but in the horse, pig and mink fat depots were affected simultaneously. Lipofuscin accumulated in the reticuloendothelial system in rats. Accumulation in spleen and liver was dependent on vitamin E deficiency, but only the accumulation in the Kupffer cells was correlated with yellow fat disease. Lipofuscin accumulation in the mesenteric lymph node did not depend on vitamin E deficiency.”

Thanks for these blogs. If everything is a gas, then when pain is suffered by a human. Does that mean that all ‘pain’ is an oxidized gas for example nitric oxide. What about the bad gases that certain mushrooms produce? You should go into a blog or book about pain.

Pain is oxygen, and numbness is carbon dioxide, so the oxygen in nitric oxide can cause pain (sometimes misinterpreted by the brain as sexual stimulation, akin to “poppers”).

Raw mushrooms should never (99% of the time) be smelled due to spores.

      Cooking de-gasses the mushrooms.

I’ve written several blog entries on pain (“3 Categories of Pain,” etc.), and pain of many types is covered extensively in my Butterflies Need No Taxidermist, Volumes 1-4.

Thanks. I have another question. This quote from Adano. “Being tickled is breathing nitrogen under pressure.. Rapture of the deep is tickling.”
Do you have any more information on how he got to that conclusion? Is it related to the periodic table?

Ticklishness is an early sign of toxicity (followed by itching, then pain).

Nitric oxide is a potent toxin, according to Ray Peat, which may explain Swami Nitty-Gritty’s statement about nitrogen.

In some respects, nitrogen and the unsociable gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) are anti-nutrients, having effects on the body by blocking enzyme actions (not always “bad”).

    Thank you
So someone else tickling you.. is related to being toxic? I am wondering more in regards to you being tickled by someone else.
    Blocking enzyme actions…maybe that’s a social thing as well…

You mean versus someone tickling themselves?

It’s hard to do because a person’s nerves vibrate at the same frequency as the tickling.

Tickling is part of stress chemistry, designed for hyper-vigilance, but it can be redirected into PLAY, like Jaak Panksepp’s laughing rats …
