Bones often represent deeply buried feelings. They can also represent plans or dreams that are “fractured.”

In the words of Flanders Dunbar, M.D., Med.Sc.D., Ph.D. (Psychosomatic Diagnosis, 1943), “In the fracture series studied more than 40 per cent gave a history of accident in the family including the patient’s siblings; 46 per cent gave a history of exposure to accident in family or friend. This is more than three times the highest percentage for family history of accident in any other group studied, and in itself suggests that there may be something in the general make-up of certain individuals predisposing them to accident which may run in families. Whether this is a matter of physiology and constitution or a matter of behavior patterns, or both, is a question that has received little attention in medical circles.”

People prone to fractures have “a health record far superior to that of the general population” (quoting Dr. Dunbar again), including major illness, minor illness, and even venereal disease.

RED-FLAG LANGUAGINGindicators influencing bone challenges include “I feel it in my bones,” “my dreams have been fractured,” “my dreams have been shattered,” “I pulled a boner,” “make no bones about it,” “step on a crack, break your mother’s back,” “a broken spirit drieth the bone,” “jealousy is rottenness of the bones,” etc.
