Re: I peel the skins off my soaked almonds. I don’t do well with tannins.

Yet TANNINS are why we’re supposed to drink green tea! Backwards world, isn’t it?

All you have to do is rename a chemical, and it goes from “bad” to “good” and back again.

Re: What tannins in tea?

According to Dr. Google (2019) .,..

“Catechins were the main phenolic compounds in tea infusions, accounting for 11.08%-16.21% dry weight of tea leaves. Specifically, EC (27 teas), EGCG (26 teas), ECG (24 teas), EGC (22 teas), GC (21 teas) and GCG (18 teas) could be detected in majorities of teas.”

Re: How many almonds can be eaten per day to avoid PUFA fat in them?

Almonds are one of the lowest foods in omega 3 fatty acids. Butter has more than almonds … and olive oil has much more.

I’m not concerned about omega 6 fatty acids except I don’t use any oil containing them.

I only eat one almond per every ten pounds of desired body weight, but the Great Gama drank a tonic containing a pound and a half of crushed almond paste mixed with water every day, and lived to 82 despite all the stress involved in winning every one of over 5,000 wrestling matches.

Sucrose a pain-killer. So is its odor. Not as effective as eating it. The odor of breast milk relieves pain too, but the odor of sucrose is more effective.

I wonder if tannins in black tea are as bad as those in green tea. Being English I do like tea a few times a week, but always with two sugars and milk, so perhaps that balances out the tannins…

The tannins can be good for you. Marketers have renamed tannins as “polyphenols” and “catachins” such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Now tea “contains healthy bioactive compounds” instead of those pesky toxic tannins.

Marketers love to flip the script with 180° name changes.

I studied with a Swami who didn’t sleep and urged us to avoid it too. So every time I do, it’s just another failure in a long line of failure. Masters need no sleep, but their students do.

Peristalsis and haustral shuttling increase by a factor of four while eating. The enteric nervous system acts like a hungry baby when not fed. That’s why Dr. J.H. Kellogg (over a century ago) advised his clients to eat a snack just before bedtime. Intestinal stasis generates indoles, skatoles, cadaverine, cortisol, histamine, serotonin, and The Usual Suspects.

Calories have little to do with weight control.

I played that game in the 1970s, having a large breakfast and lunch, drinking two quarts of half-and-half at midday and eating 9 eggs, 3 servings of hash browns, 3 servings of coleslaw, 6 pieces of toast and jelly, and 3 pieces of sweet potato pie for supper (at House of Pies), and remains so skinny that if I turned sideways and stuck out my tongue, I looked like a zipper.
