Should humans eat meat, or is a vegetarian diet the healthiest way to live? On one side you have the Atkins and Paleo Diets, and on the other you have plant-based lifestyles that demonize meat of all kinds. Which camp should you listen to?

Without exception, all vegetarians had carnivorous ancestors. When scientists analyzed the protein of ancient human bones, they found they mostly contained animal-based protein, and very little plant protein. In fact, they didn’t discover a single vegetarian. What they did find was these prehistoric meat eaters were a robust people with healthy bones, no indications of cancer, obesity, or heart disease, and absolutely no auto-immune syndromes. Even more, it wasn’t until agriculture took hold that there was a marked decline in human stature, bone density, and overall health, along with an increase in birth defects and overall disease.

    According to my biology teacher we were not originally meat eaters. Australopithecine man did not eat meat. My biology teacher is not a vegetarian or vegan.

      When you say “we”, who are “we”? For a Chinese person as I am a “we” signify Asian race, for you maybe signify Caucasian race.
      Different races of humans have different origins.

        I do not know from witch planet some come but all of our ancestors where meat eaters. Also berry’s and so on but sure meat and no wheat or corn at all bemuse that was not in the picture then. So if your biology teacher said something different then is he not the title ‘teacher’ worthy because he is ****. Sorry, but that is the truth.

          Sorry our intestinal tracts are not the same as a carnivore and it would have been very difficult to eat meat before the advent of tools and fire. Just a point about my biology teacher, she wasn’t a vegetarian but tried to justify eating meat by saying we evolved into meat eaters, that s no more likely than we evolved to be chocolate eaters. According to Gordon the fossil teeth of our ancestors are most similar to those of a modern fruit eating ape

      Where is the evidence that humans cannot survive without eating meat? Would be humans more peaceful species without eating meat, without killing animals, without all the blood? Whose aim was it to program some humans for eat consumption? What is the reason behind programming some humans to enjoy eating dead animals? Do meat eaters even think for how long the animal has been dead before they consume it? Was the meat stored in freezer for how many months? And they still enjoy eating dead body? Isn’t all this just way too ridiculous?

    I’m sorry but our teeth are not designed to eat meat. We are not members of the cat family. I haven’t listened to this how just looked at the highlights. But I challenge this man to jump on the back of a zebra or wilder beast and take a bite out of it, that’s a real carnivore. The fact is our teeth are designed to bite vegetables and fruit not meat. The only way we can eat raw meat is by interfering with the mechanical process i.e. using a meat grinder or knife. That would have been a bit of a challenge for cave men before they invented tools.

        Indeed Bernard! We can also not make a comparison with the meat that we eat today with the meat that they ate 100 000 years ago. That meat was so healthy with healthy fats and vitamins because the animals that eat plants and so on, that meat is also rich in nutrients.

    The longest lived people in the US and one of the longest lived in the world are the vegetarian Seventh Day Adventist from the Loma Linda valley It seems their meat free diet has worked for them, not against. Just a thought…

      There are a lot of things that determine health and longevity. Food is not primordial. We like to focus on one thing and say “oh, this is what humans are meant to eat”. We forget about where the Blue Zone cultures live and how they live. If you look to the work of Weston Price who lived and studied among more than 10 different cultures around the world, he found not one vegetarian culture. All of them had some sort of animal protein in their diet and as long as they kept to their native foods, they had superior health. Once they strayed to processed foods, disease crept in. And there is one huge reason for disease in modern times along with our technology…Wi-Fi’s, non-native EMFs, microwaves, and constant blue light exposure which screws up our sleep cycle. I bet all of the blue zones limit their exposure to blue light as well as processed foods. Doesn’t really have much to do with whether they are eating meat or not. Granted, we probably eat a lot more meat than our ancestors since they didn’t have warehouses of food available to them. We can’t look to our teeth and say we are not meant to eat meat or we are meant to eat meat. That is pretty kindergarten mentality. We have to look to physics and biology. Humans have a very hard time digesting the cellulose that is in ALL plants. Meat is one of the easiest foods for us to eat, given we haven’t messed up our digestive systems with antibiotics, processed foods, etc. I HIGHLY recommend studying the work of Dr. Jack Kruse, who is doing some phenomenal work. Patrick had him on the show a few years back. Would be great to have him on again.

        You said ‘Meat is one of the easiest foods for us to eat’ What do you mean by that? Meat certainly isn’t the easiest to digest. In fact it can take up to 48 hours for meat to digest whereas, vegetables take only a few hour and 45 minute for fruit. Weston Price are no doubt in the pockets of the meat industry. Meat eaters will manipulate any studies to obtain the result they want. The meat and dairy industry spend millions on propaganda every year. A few years ago it was headlines on national television that meat was linked to bowel cancer. All meat eaters that I know have serious problems with their health. I warned three of them years ago. All three dropped down dead at ages 50, 60, and 63. I warned my friends wife just two years before she died of breast cancer at the age of 49 years. ‘ Her reply before she became ill was ‘ We like our meat in this house’. Her husband ballooned to over 300 pounds and is awaiting an operation for blocked arteries, he also has macular degeneration, yet at 15 years of age we were both less than 140 pounds. today I am the same weight as I was when I was 15 years old.

          Meat is very easily digested if eaten raw. I’m not a meat eater as such, but i eat raw fish and raw eggs. i could never eat more than about 4,5 cooked eggs a week. Now i eat about 6,8 raw eggs a day. i have eaten 13 in one day and that put my bowel health back on track within 2 days after being quite ‘off color’ for 2 weeks. i had strayed back to some cooked food and carbs to cause this problem.
          The body will completely assimilate a raw egg in about 24 minutes, which does allow you to safely eat 18-24 eggs in a single day.
          I follow the Primal Diet.

    Lauren, are the 7th. day vegetarian? I thought they were omnivores…maybe not. I liked Dr. Clayman. Obviously, many will do well on all kinds of diet…just depending on what works for you. For me, complex carbs don’t work well, so all that would leave is just fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds…and I’ve done that and just was not enough to keep me going.

    First point that Dr Clayman made quote: ‘If we look in the mirror it is blatantly obvious that we were meant to be eat meat’ . Oh yes? How did he come to that conclusion? Did he think that we would have only molars and no incisors if we were meant to be vegetarians? That doesn’t make sense. Our molars grind food and the incisors are for chopping, two basic necessities to be able to digest ANY food. Its possible to have no molars and eat plant food or meat.

    Does eating red and processed meat increase your cancer risk?
    It’s quite likely that you’ve seen or heard news stories about the link between red and processed meat and cancer. This is because there is strong evidence that eating a lot of these foods increases your risk of bowel cancer.

    So many studies ignore the world of differences between grass-fed and CAFO meat and their ramifications for our health.
    From a nutritional point of view – not to mention a humane one – I recommend only non-factory farm raised meat, poultry, fish and eggs. Of course I also eat organic produce, raising as much of it as I can myself.
    I am 83 and in perfect health – and never took meds. I rest my case.

    I will talk with my feeling here.
    We, human, come from so many different linéage. We have 3 levels of body and they all need to be fed. In my book, meat is not an issue of health, all sit in your believe system and your linéage. Personally, I had a period of my life where I could not eat any meat and other where my body just crave for meat. Why, not sure, I am learning to trust those urges. We know very little about those 2 other bodies and they surely play a role at this level of reality. Health is like happiness does not come from outside in but inside out.

    For what it’s worth….
    After researching what my family ate….it was meats, starches, and vegetables, and all generations lived into their 90s. There was only one vaccine given(polio when it came out), everyone lived through all the whooping cough and MMR diseases, everyone had a natural birth and was breastfed, and the only antibiotic that was used was SSKI. So it isn’t JUST the meat; it’s a collection of everything; a general change in the living environment.

    The meat was always cooked on-bone, with organs, over several hours, always with vegetables. In the winter, vegetables, except those that could be stored l, were not primarily eaten. Meats and storableable roots were the only way to get nutrition in the winter in the cold climates. Also, activity was lower so they didn’t have to eat as much. Fresh, local veggies and meats in the summer, with local fruit. The problem in the food category is that it’s all been commercialized and shipped in. They need to preserve the foods, so they are still sprayed. Fresh orange juice used to be a one time a year thing at Easter, not every other week. We have really lost the way on how to eat properly. Food should be rotated amongst seasons through the diet, as to not cause any sensitivities.

    If you wonder why you can’t digest starches, meats, or vegetables, or any one of the three, make sure you don’t have Candida and start balancing your Flora. Go eat some fresh vegetables pulled right out of the ground and just brushed off.
