Higher maximum temperature
Temperature readings directly in front of the heat lamps are 170 degrees (77 Celsius) at 12 inch distance, and 138 degrees (59 Celsius) at 18 inch distance.
Incandescent heat lamp saunas allow the user to quickly adjust the desired heat level by changing the distance and body position. The heat lamps reach maximum temperature within a few minutes, compared to carbon and ceramic heating elements commonly used in far infrared saunas that can take 45 minutes or more to preheat. The maximum temperature produced by far infrared heating elements is limited to about 150 degrees in many cases, resulting in a moderate sweat and not the full drenching sweat produced by a properly designed heat lamp sauna.

Enclosures
The Spectra sauna pictured above shows a small closet with wood door enclosure and no reflective material. This setup should be sufficient in most cases and prevents the need for a separate enclosure taking up space in the room.

Maximum heat exposure
Many heat lamp saunas have lamps located too far out from the center of the body. The lamps are highly directional, and this results in much of the heat produced passing by the body to the surrounding air. The Spectra sauna in-line design ensures maximum heat exposure by having the heat lamps pointed directly at the body.No lamp guards required
There are no lamp guards on the Spectra sauna, and they are simply unnecessary for most adults who can maintain the recommended distance from the lamps. For small children and individuals with disabilities, metal screening (not included) can be purchased to protect the user from the heat lamps. Here is a video on how to make your own lamp guards if desired. A stainless steel or galvanized metal crate is another option.Eye Health
Total height of the sauna is 47 inches. The top lamp is centered 7 inches from top, bottom lamp is centered 16 inches from bottom. When seated in front of the sauna for an individual of average height, the top lamp is at face height, bottom lamp is at waist height. (Stool or chair not included.)
The User Guide included with every purchase shows how to use the sauna while in the lying down or standing positions if desired. Adjustable cables or racks can be used to hold the sauna above the body. Here is one setup showing how to use the sauna in the lying down position using clamps for support.
