Super Anti-Inflammatory Protocol:

Individuals with leaky gut syndrome develop pronounced food allergens and sensitivities. It is essential that these individuals avoid inflammatory provoking food agents until the gut is repaired and the immune system is calmed down. When inflammatory agents are consumed the body may react with an intense immune response.

The first step in the healing process is to completely avoid food allergens and other inflammatory agents. Unfortunately, many foods we naturally think are safe may be contaminated with inflammatory provoking agents. This article goes through natural steps to reduce the intensity of the reaction and minimize damage when consuming inflammatory agents.

Environmental Toxins and Trauma Can Inflame:

Environmental toxins such as gasoline fumes, chemical cleaning products and chemicals such as air fresheners, perfumes and colognes can also set off an inflammatory reaction. Chronic inflammation is characterized by increases in inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Tumor Necrosis Factor Kappa Beta (TFN-KB).

Someone could also be chronically inflamed from a serious physical injury or major emotional event. Either way, all these physical, chemical and emotional trauma’s put our body into a vicious cycle of chronic inflammation. We must act to stop the inflammatory cycle and regain balance in our body.

Most Common Food Allergens:

Gluten and Gluten Cross Contaminants as listed in this article

Anything with Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s)

Nightshade Vegetables – Tomatoes, Potatoes, Eggplant, Peppers

Legumes – Beans & Nuts of all Kinds

Eggs Dairy Corn

Artificial Flavorings, Preservatives, Chemical Additives and Filling Agents

The Challenge with Avoiding These Inflammatory Food Agents:

Many of these inflammatory foods are government subsidies and food manufacturers get them extremely cheap. Due to the low cost they are used in sauces, dressings and as food stuffs in many common dishes and so they are ubiquitous in our food supply. It is nearly impossible to go to a typical chain restaurant and find even one dish that is not contaminated with one or more of the above food allergens.

Many individuals who are struggling with their health are willing to give up their social life and/or comfort foods and they often splurge or occasionally “cheat” with a meal containing one or more of these foods. When they do this they set off a massive inflammatory cascade within their system that can affect their body for up to 2-3 months afterwards.

Load Up on Immune System Modulators to Reduce Inflammatory Fires:

There are certain compounds that help to neutralize the inflammatory fires in our body. These include heavy dosages of Probiotics, vitamin D3, glutathione boosters, turmeric, citrus bioflavinoids, vitamin C and polyphenolic anti-oxidants. Good rest, lots clean water along with the intake of healthy fatty acids and intermittent fasting are extremely helpful for modulating the inflammatory process in the body.

I would recommend taking very high doses of these modulators including 10,000 IU of vitamin D3, 5,000 mg of Vitamin C, 500 mg of citrus bioflavonoids and 200 billion+ CFU of probiotics. Using various doses of glutathione boosting amino acids like glycine, glutamic acid and cysteine would be very helpful as well as turmeric.

Why Intermittent Fasting:

The practice of fasting allows the body to put more energy and focus into the process of effective immune regulation. Fasting while drinking water and cleansing beverages flushes out the digestive system and reduces the number of natural microorganisms in the gut. The microorganism count is typically regulated by the immune system. So this allows the immune system to divert energy to other more important areas.

Intermittent fasting is a terrific regulator of the immune system as it controls the amount of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TFN-KB) that are released in the body. Studies have shown that fasting reduces the release of these inflammatory mediators and regulates the immune system.

Adrenal Supporting Supplements:

The inflammatory provoking agents will drive up the adrenals and cause adrenal fatigue so it is critical to take adrenal modulating substances such as Holy Basil, Rhodiola, Ginseng, and/or Ashwagandha. These adaptogens will help manage stress hormones and stabilize blood sugar more effectively.

When the adrenals are on high alert they steal valuable resources the body would use to heal. The body is unable to heal effectively when it is in survival mode. The adaptogens help the body adapt to the stress of the inflammatory conditions and taken along with a powerful anti-inflammatory approach it helps to stop the vicious cycle of inflammation and stress.

Dr Jockers Personal Recommendations:

My personal recommendation is to make a drink with Beyond Organic Sacred Herbs Terrain Liquid herbals which has fermented turmeric and holy basil in water. I would also add fresh squeezed lemon which provides vitamin C and citrus bioflavonoids. This drink will help to stabilize adrenal function and reduce inflammation in the body.

I make sure to build all my meals around good fats (avocados, coconut, grass-fed butter, olive oil), anti-oxidants (veggies or berries) and clean protein (grass-fed beef or organic poultry) and fiber (fermented chia seed) and fermented foods or tonics. The fermented foods or tonics would include fermented veggies, fermented chia (Terrain Omega), apple cider vinegar, coconut water kefir, fermented raw dairy (if you can tolerate it) like plain Amasai or Raw Cheese.

I would then do intermittent fasting for 16-18 hours each day and drink tons of the water with lemon and Sacred Herbs Terrain during the fast. I would also take the Beyond Organic AdaptGen to help balance my adrenals – 3 caps in the morning and 3 caps in the afternoon. I would take the Beyond Organic TerraFirma – 9 caps in the evening.

I would use high dose liposomal vitamin C or an immune balance product that has vitamin C, selenium, zinc and glutathione precursers. I would make sure I rested a lot – 8+ hours of high quality sleep each night and possible naps during the day. Very light exercise until the inflammation gets under control. I would be sure to get 30-60 minutes of grounding each day, barefoot on grass, dirt or sand to neutralize electrical toxicity and enhance anti-oxidants in the body.
