Subtleties are a double edged sword. On one hand, they are truly the key of inner guidance, however on another hand if these subtleties go unnoticed, they can slowly take you far from where you thought you would be inlife.
Have you ever thought,“How did I get here? This wasn’thow my life was supposed be!”

There are hundreds of self-help books written about this subject alone. You know how the story goes, “It’s not the destination, but the journey”. Though I wholeheartedly believe that to be true, I believe thattoo often that message gets misinterpreted letting us “off the hook” for not noticing the subtleties that had led us to where we are today. Some say getting off our path is faith, or perhaps God’s plan; while others believe this “turn in destination” is exactly where we should be.

What if theresponsibly of your life isn’t solely written in the stars and out-of-your-hands, butinstead… lieswithinyou. And it was you who allowed (most of the time unknowingly) the changes thatoccurredleading you to where you are today?

Please, don’t get me wrong. I want to be very clear that I am not saying that life’s surprises, twists and turns arenecessarilybad things, nor am I intending to offend anyone’s beliefs. What I am simply suggesting is another way of viewing life’s circumstances.

So, when you are reflecting in a remorseful manner as to why youdidn’taccomplish what you had set out to accomplish in life, remember that life justdidn’thappento youas though you were avictimof life, but rather you were/arein the driver’s seat of your own life. You have always had the power to yield your life to the outcome it has or has not become. For example…

Imagine driving in a car on an expansive smooth ice-hardened lake. This lake is thousands of miles in every direction. There are no roads, only you and your car. And In the extreme distance there is a beacon of light.

This light is specific to only you.

It is your light. Your essence. It embraces all that you are; your passions, your uniqueness. It is theTRUEyou – despiteall the personas you have created throughout your life.

The task is simple (or is it?)

All you need to do is drive directly to thatlight; the lightis your destination.

As long as that light is on (the light being your goal that compels you to drive onward), all you have to do is drivestraightto it; so kick back and listen to your favorite tunes. Piece of cake!

Then…

Suddenly, fog roles in.

The light gets dimmer and dimmer immersed in the fog until it eventually vanishes from sight. As you notice the disappearing light, you decide it is of little worry because after all, you have been drivingstraightfor hours! All you have to do is simply continue to drive straight. Eventually the fog will lift, and you will once again be able to see the light. Perhaps you will even be at your destination by then.

No problem!

As you continue to drive, you actually do an excellent job at staying in a straight line. In fact, you only veer off course by 1 degree. Barely noticeable.

Of course 1 degree is small and nearly undetectable as long as you are able to make the corrections along the way. In fact, while driving toward the light before the fogrolledin, that was exactly what you were doing – making small correctionsConsciously AND Subconsciously no different than you do everyday driving in-between the lines of any road. But this time, light not in sight, and thesubtlety is significant! And you unknowingly drive hundreds of miles off course.

Time goes by, and finally the fog lifts, only to reveal that your light has vanished.

What a wake-up call this is! What are you going to do? This is serious because you will eventually you will run out of gas.

But alas, you see a light! However, you mistakenly believe it to be your light, and feeling relieved you continue to drive towards it not realizing that you are now hundreds of miles off track. You are unknowingly driving towards someone else’slight!

It’s important to remember what fills your heart and sole. And though it may feel good to please someone else’s expectations of what “they” believe is best for your life, in the end… it is your life! Only you know what your purpose, and life’s path should be.

So if you think the subtleties of life are insignificant as they happen, I urge you to think again. It is never too late to once again reestablish your light and drive towards it once again.

Only yourlightoffers hope and happiness. And when you are happy, your inner light shines and offers others hope andinspiration!

But how can you stay on course? The answer is both simple and difficult. The key of recognizing a course change is silence from your inner chatter. In the silence your true path emerges.

Sometimes major changes are needed, but it should be you who determines the course changes needed.

So…shhhhh…and listen carefully –your light is trying to tell you something!
