The Only Thing I’ve Learned About the Markets

A reader, Suzy, left a sweet comment at my last post.
Trader Scott,
Re; I find most of the interviews on King World News to be completely useless or worse.
I am so glad you said that. Over the years I have read King World News off and on and thought the same thing. Nice to have it verified by you, an expert in the field 🙂
I do appreciate the kind words, and I would respond this way – After well over twenty years in this business of having my money on the line, it’s debatable whether I actually understand markets.
But I have become pretty good at the only thing that truly matters for longevity in trading and investing. I understand, I have complete respect for, and I know how to control —- RISK.
Please ponder that. After years and years of only being involved in markets as a “job” and working twelve hour days, that is the only thing that I have really grasped.
And then ask yourself, do you need a completely new approach to and perspective on — markets?

Thanks Scott!
The following stood out as gold….
“But I have become pretty good at the only thing that truly matters for longevity in trading and investing. I understand, I have complete respect for, and I know how to control —- RISK.”
Regarding understanding, respecting, and controlling risk… what does a broad strokes overview of that look like, what basic things do you do, to be successful at managing risk?
Thanks for all your work,
Randal

Randal that’s a great idea for an upcoming post as it will be rather wordy.
Thanks
