A sense of humor is key to growing spiritually on Planet Earth

If laughter is the best medicine for physical illness, imagine what it might do for spiritual ailments.  Educational psychologist and “self-help stand-up comedian” Dana Marrocco explores this idea in her book, THE TOP TEN LIES WE TELL OURSELVES: And How to Stop Believing Them (Ixia Press; August 15, 2018; $24.95 with a foreword by Gary R. Renard, bestselling author of The Disappearance of the Universe), a work inspired by A Course in Miracles. The ego — the fear-soaked part of our minds — is happiest when we listen and do everything it asks, even when it doesn’t make sense to us. But spiritual growth actually depends on listening to the ego, but only so we can learn not to do what it suggests. In her book Dr. Dana shows the reader how to expose the hidden and harmful messages from our egos that, far too often, we blindly accept as true.

Dr. Dana recommends a gentle, light-hearted “roasting” of our self-deceptions over time in order to avoid nasty ego backlash, which is really our own deep-seated belief that we don’t deserve to feel better. The ten ego lies documented in this book range from the idea that there is one person out there who will complete us, to the need to ‘win’ by holding onto our grudges longest. Each lie comes with a challenge: to refrain from acting on or believing it for 24 hours. Dr. Dana draws on her doctorate in educational psychology to back up her message with the classic research of such scientists and scholars as Edward Thorndike, Karen Horney, Abraham Maslow, and others. With the rare, deft touch of someone who has actually tested her academic and spiritual studies against the everyday challenges of life, Dr. Dana gives readers a trustworthy yet down-to-earth voice of authority that has the added kick of a real sense of humor. In an interview she can discuss some of the typical ego lies and how to dispel them. For example:

*NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN BEING RIGHT

* THE PERSON WHO CAN HOLD A GRUDGE THE LONGEST WINS

* YOU MUST ATTACK FIRST AND OFTEN, OR RISK BEING DEFEATED

* CHAOS IS BUSINESS AS USUAL, SO GET USED TO IT

Using humor and a solid base of academic and practical knowledge, Dr. Dana will help readers gently undo the typical lies we all tell ourselves… and enjoy a wealth of laughter along the way.

Dr. Marrocco has a long relationship with “A Course of Miracles” as a backdrop for her philosophy and Soul awareness

How does one tell the difference between Soul and Mind (Ego)?

The trouble starts when we believe we are separate from Divine Spirit, how God’s expresses itself in the lower Worlds of opposites

Dr. Marrrocco says she never would have moved into more awareness, (also known as Spiritual Growth). without a sense of humor

How is it that who most think they are, The ego, is always giving who we really are, Soul…a hard time

A deep knowingness we are not separate form Spirit, are made of God’s love and are not separate from one another is Da Bomb

Fear and uncertainty is quite hard on the body

Dr. Marrocco created a rash on her face as she was a bit “unsure” about facing people in person to promote her new book
