Nutrition and Hair Mineral Analysis
In 1971, Dr. Rick Malter earned a Ph.D. in Education and School Psychology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He earned his M.A. degree in 1964 from the Committee on Human Development at the University of Chicago. Until he retired and moved to Arizona in 2001, he was a licensed nutrition counselor as well as a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois.
Dr. Malter’s special interests have been in Learning Disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Since the 1970’s, he has written and presented papers on LD and ADD to state and national conventions of psychologists and special educators. Since 1980, Dr. Malter has had a keen interest in applying clinical nutrition to helping children, adolescents and adults with LD and ADD instead of using powerful stimulant drugs.
For the past 30 years, Dr. Malter has had a strong interest in nutrition and hair mineral analysis. Before he retired from his clinical psychology practice, nutrition and hair mineral analysis were valuable components of the services that he offered to his clients — children, adolescents, and adults. In 2002, he wrote The Strands of Health: A Guide to Understanding Hair Mineral Analysis. This book introduces the basic concepts related to understanding hair mineral analysis. Dr. Malter continues to offer seminars and hair analysis consultations.
