We received such an incredible response to our first show with Paul Gautschi, we wanted to have even more fun and do it again. We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did!!
Paul Gautschi has been a gardener for over 55 years and is known locally as a master arborist. In 1979 Paul and his family moved to the Northern Peninsula of Washington from California. -What 3 things do people who live to 120 have in common?
-Fire does not destroy minerals:The wonders of using wood ashes in your garden
-Paul tells us why he doesn’t cover his plants in the winter; nothing dies, it just goes dormant
-Paul has an orchard that hasn’t been watered or fertilized for 34 years. He tells us why
-The key to a great garden is woodchips

Patrick — Loved this show. This is my favorite, favorite guest you bring on your program. I love the rapport between you two — great show. You are a great host, bring out the best in your guests.
I learned some stuff. Treat your wood ash like gold and buy one of those gadgets to measure the minerals. You could be really dangerous with one of those things, yes? Take it to the farmers market and measure somebody’s vegetables and tell them they don’t have any minerals in their produce? Yikes!
Minerals, the secret to good health.

I heat with firewood all year, when cold, how much wood ash can you put in the garden? is there too much that can hurt it? can we put wood ash around the fruit trees too??? thanks mary

Good show. Paul Gautschi knows a lot about gardening, this is fantastic information, but how much does Paul Gautschi really know about nutrition? He has MS or some nerve disorder in his legs which prevents him from walking.
Paul believes that people were meant to be vegetarian,
so presumably the closest he gets to eating meat are eggs from the chickens which he raises.
So for all his vaunted ‘We’re sick because we’re mineral deficient’, he cannot even walk. He blames his crippled condition chemical exposure in the war, but …. at the same time admits he’ll go a whole day on one handful of strawberries. Your nerves are sheathed in cholesterol, Paul,
and humans are not grazing vegetarian animals who do nothing but eat all day and/or have several stomachs with which to digest cellulose. I recommend that you start eating some fatty grass-fed organic beef if you want to restore your nervous system to its normal function. Vegetarianism is debunked. Aside from that, your knowledge and generosity in sharing that knowledge (on growing greens) are admirable.
Thank you , and I wish you nothing but the best in health
and prosperity. Listening to you is a pleasure, btw.

Listen to Paul’s first interview where he says he does eat meat to some extent. He also tells us that he is affected by agent orange while in the vietnam war in his early years. Not vegetarian, but fresh-eating from the garden in whatever season the crop is produced. Doesn’t recommend home-canning because of vitamin, mineral loss. Much background information in first interview!

In other youtube interviews he explains that he does eat some meat and lightly cooks a few things, like potatoes, for tenderness or palatability. Also he explained that he ate at least two eggs every day. He is not vegan or vegetarian.

we live in the Midwest cold, if we are going to have hard times, how are we going to store food without canning, if we use freezers and electric goes out, it will spoil. so out of survival I am canning again, better than nothing to eat. what else can we do? can’t grow food with lights all winter, too expensive and again trusting in electric that might not be here. I can dehydrate food too, using electric if we have it and I also have a hanging in the sun dryer system that does not need electric. thanks mary
