Professor Don Huber
Agricultural Scientist and Expert in Microbial Ecology
April 5, 2012
We’ve been waiting a long time to talk with Professor Huber, an agricultural scientist and expert in microbial ecology, but it was worth the wait. One hour turned into two so get prepared for one of the most important and spookiest shows of the year.
Professor Huber starts with explaining and describing RoundUp, a broad spectrum herbicide used to clean up weeds and is the most abused chemical in agriculture. He then moves into explaing RoundUp Ready crops which are genetically modified to withstand RoundUp. Why are they a threat to agriculture and our health? The answers go deep and Prof. Huber explains it well. On January 16, 2011, Prof. Huber wrote a letter to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack with information about a newly discovered ‘pathogen that appears to significantly impact the health of plants, animals, and probably human beings’, which is found in higher concentrations of Round Up Ready soybeans and corn. Prof. Huber spends the second hour explaining how these genetically engineered crops affect our digestion, the gut flora and our overall health. Please take the time to send this podcast to at least one person you care about. This subject needs to be talked about again and again and again as we have the power to stop the destruction of natural food by not participating in the consumption of this food and demanding the labeling of products in which this food is included.

I am attempting to write my first legit research paper on the topic of potential effects of use/production of genetically modified foods on biodiversity in California. I really want to learn the facts and be able to share what I have learned. I have been researching peer reviewed journals online and am having a hard time finding a good amount of info relating specifically to California. I need to use multiple scholarly/peer reviewed journals to base my research paper on. If anyone wants to help by sending me some links it would be much appreciated! [email protected]

Hello Patrick,
Thank you for a really fantastic interview. Here you have an esteemed scientist and your skilled interview telling us stuff that should be driving the population away from supermarkets and into permaculture in droves, but there is barley a ripple….can anyone tell me why people arent freaking out about this?? We have been fighting the introduction of GM canola into Western Australia but have failed, it has been grown for 2 years and is contaminating the state. The bad news about canola is that it is a brassica related to about 2o really healthy vegetables like kale, broccoli, Mizuna etc. YES the GM can cross pollinate with these plants and render our seedsaving in our garden a dangerous activity. There is no way to get test strips and test plants unless you have $8,000, as they come in bundle of 1000 and have a shelf life. ie $8.00 a test, IF you can obtain them anywhere. Patrick, my sister likes to be thorough and would very much like to read the “toxicology data” and scientific studies Prof Huber refers to. Could you PLEASE track these down and send to me ? She is attempting to contact Don Huber herself and if she is successful I will let you know you don’t need to bother further. It is really important to her to verify claims made. Sorry to take up your time though. Keep up the great work and thanks very much indeed. Bee
