According to Ray Peat (Oct. 3, 2020) …

“When I was hypothyroid, I felt best when I would have 30 to 50 cups, just constantly drinking a fairly strong coffee with cream.”

Georgi Dinkov : “Wow, so you were drinking more coffee than milk at that time?”

Ray Peat : “Oh, no, I drank a lot of milk, but generally not together, and, interestingly, I didn’t form a tremendous amount of urine because I evaporated so much. At that time I would steam up even a fairly big room full of windows in cool weather.”

According to “The Story of Gus Comstock: World’s Coffee Drinking Champion,” Fergus Falls Daily Journal, Feb. 21, 2009) …

“At 7 a.m. on Jan. 11, 1927, he [Guzzling Gus Comstock] walked into the Kaddatz Hotel with the intent of setting a new world coffee drinking record. Using regular restaurant coffee in 8 ounce cups, Gus downed 15 in the first hour. For each cup consumed, a slip of paper was placed in a sealed box. Shortly after noon, Dr. Theurer checked Gus and declared him normal except for a slight increase in temperature.

“Methodically Gus drank cup after cup until 2:10 p.m. when he stopped. The final count was 85 cups of coffee in six hours — a new world record.”

Élie Metchnikoff (The Prolongation of Life: Optimistic Studies, 1907) wrote …

“In some cases centenarians have been much addicted to the drinking of coffee. The reader will recall Voltaire’s reply when his doctor described the grave harm that comes from the abuse of coffee, which acts as a real poison. ‘Well’, said Voltaire, ‘I have been poisoning myself for nearly eighty years.’ There are centenarians who have lived longer than Voltaire and have drunk still more coffee. Elizabeth Durieux, a native of Savoy, reached the age of 114. Her principal food was coffee, of which she took daily as many as forty small cups. She was jovial and a boon table companion, and used black coffee in quantities that would have surprised an Arab.”
