George Sandby (Mesmerism and Its Opponents, Second Edition, 1844, 1848) wrote …

“Where was imagination here? The poor ignorant mother and daughter, in their humble cottage, had never heard of Mesmerism ….. It was in consequence of a sudden thought that I commenced the manipulations; and while I was proceeding with them, they did not even know what I was doing, or, in fact, that I was doing any thing; and in less than four minutes there was a decided effect.

“I continued the passes for about an hour. She now and then started, and cried out from a sudden pain, but she did not awake; the face had gradually become tranquil; the whole frame seemed comfortable, and I left her asleep. In about a quarter of an hour after my departure she awoke; and though the pain soon became again extremely severe and the fever high, yet there was a decided mitigation of suffering as compared to what it had been; she no longer screamed out from the agony; her night was better, and she had a little sleep.

“The next day I put her into a deep sleep in five minutes: in less than a week, by the surgeon’s own admission, she went to sleep in two minutes and a half; for he occasionally attended with me to watch the process (of which he had hitherto seen and known nothing); the severity of the pains also greatly abated, and she began to enjoy a refreshing night’s rest. In fact, from the time of the first mesmeric visit, there commenced a gradual, though slow, amelioration; after each séance she was the stronger and better, and the idea of amputation was abandoned; but inasmuch as medical treatment was going on contemporaneously, I must not attribute the whole benefit to the magnetic power. But this fact is undeniable, that as I was often called from home at that period, at each interval of my absence the poor girl relapsed, and gave me great additional labour on my return. However, be the present far happier state of the patient owing to what it may, my medical friend most candidly admits that a great amount of suffering has been spared to her by this sleep, — that Mesmerism was so far an auxiliary to him, and that probably the improvement in her health has been greatly accelerated by its means. This is taking very low and inadequate ground; but even with this admission, what a blessing has Mesmerism proved to the unhappy sufferer!

“Though her general health has since very greatly advanced, and she is able to walk about on crutches, it is doubtful if she will ever recover the complete use of the limb, for it is feared that anchylosis, or union of the upper and lower surfaces of the bones forming the knee-joint may have supervened.

“One point in the treatment is deserving of notice.”

Carlos Castaneda (Journey to Ixtlan: The Lessons of Don Juan, 1972) wrote …

“We gathered some sticks and proceeded to build the hunting contraptions. I had mine almost finished and was excitedly wondering whether or not it would work when suddenly don Juan stopped and looked at his left wrist, as if he were checking a watch which he had never had, and said that according to his timepiece it was lunchtime. I was holding a long stick, which I was trying to make into a hoop by bending it into a circle. I automatically put it down with the rest of my hunting paraphernalia.

“Don Juan looked at me with an expression of curiosity. Then he made the wailing sound of a factory siren at lunchtime. I laughed. His siren sound was perfect. I walked towards him and noticed that he was staring at me. He shook his head from side to side.

    “‘I’ll be damned,’ he said.

    “‘What’s wrong?’ I asked.

“He again made the long wailing sound of a factory whistle.

“‘Lunch is over,’ he said. ‘Go back to work.’

“I felt confused for an instant, but then I thought that he was joking, perhaps because we really had nothing to make lunch with. I had been so engrossed with the rodents that I had forgotten we had no provisions. I picked up the stick again and tried to bend it. After a moment don Juan again blew his ‘whistle.’

“‘Time to go home,’ he said.

“He examined his imaginary watch an then looked at me and winked.

“‘It’s five o’clock,’ he said with an air of someone revealing a secret. I thought that he had suddenly become fed up with hunting and was calling the whole thing off. I simply put everything down and began to get ready to leave. I did not look at him. I presumed that he also was preparing his gear. When I was through I looked up and saw him sitting cross-legged a few feet away.

“‘I’m through,’ I said. ‘We can go anytime.’

“He got up and climbed a rock. He stood there, five or six feet above the ground, looking at me. He put his hands on either side of his mouth and made a very prolonged and piercing sound. It was like a magnified factory siren. He turned around in a complete circle, making the wailing sound.

“‘What are you doing, don Juan?’ I asked.

“He said that he was giving the signal for the whole world to go home.”

Weight optimization (total weight loss or gain) and weight distribution (local weight loss or gain) are determined by PRESSURE.

Examples of temporary local weight redistribution are (1) a bodybuilder’s “pump” and (2) a penile erection.

Why is this not well known by the scientists who study obesity?

Swami Nitty-Gritty (Adano Ley) observed, “No one’s gonna pay you to tell them they’re full of hot air.”

    <>

When you say you’re “under a lot of pressure,” you’re using more than a figure of speech – you’re talking PHYSICS.

At sea level, you’re under 14.7 pounds per square inch of pressure, while the inside of your body maintains 14.6 pounds per square inch of pressure to maintain respiratory equilibrium.

Giant sea turtles or whales kept in captivity never grow as large as they do in the open ocean.

Deep diving activates this weight gain.

The same physics is at work when the fetal aquanaut is expelled from the highly pressurized womb into the less pressurized environment to enter the world with the typical puffy-cheeked, ballooned-up “popcorn” baby face.

Orthostatic pressure eventually equalizes as the years go by, and the infant’s face returns from balloon geometry to a less-pressurized egg-like shape.

Until STRESS reruns the popcorn baby face — this time not wrinkle-free.

“We sell ourselves short,” taught Adano Ley. Millions of people (famous and common) once studied and/or practiced MESMERISM. Hundreds of books and thousands of articles were written on the subject. MESMERISM was tied to the French Revolution and great historic events. Today’s lamestream scientists and physicians reject Vital Fluid and Extrasensory Perception. Skeptics vilify MESMERISM as “Victorian pseudoscience,” distorting it as a “short-lived phenomena,” but nothing is further from the truth. What about hypnosis? It’s what’s left after 20th Century “experts” threw out the baby with the bathwater. MESMERISM can cure cancer. Hypnosis makes you feel good about having cancer. Mesmerized subjects sometimes see through walls — often with their stomach. (Stomach 1 is just below the eyes.) Deaf people hear again. Color-blind people see colors again. Crippled people walk again. MESMERISM is denounced as “nothing but suggestion.” So how are animals Mesmerized? Chickens and crocodiles? Birds and bison? Lizards and lions? Much of this book is from the public domain, published prior to 1923. Its pages are long on history, and it’s no easy read — but worth its weight in gold. Mesmerism has sundry techniques, having lots in common with Mystic Yoga and Alchemy (Mysterium Coniunctionis). If you’re seeking New Age triteness, you’d be better off with “What the BLEEP.” Hypnosis is more intimate than sex. (Some folks combine them.) “The hypnotist takes on the karma of the hypnotized,” warned Adano Ley. “Once a therapist has been associated with a patient’s trance behavior, there is forever after some association between that therapist and the patient’s previous altered state of trance,” wrote Milton H. Erickson, M.D. (look him up in Wikipedia). So why chain yourself to the fate of a second party, when SELF-MESMERISM is the highest choice? (“Please, mother, I’d rather do it MYSELF!”) Are you down for the Red Pill? It’s INSIDE you. There never was a time it wasn’t. All you have to do is USE it. Are you ready to “tune” like John Murdoch in Dark City? Are you ready to live in multiple worlds like Neo in The Matrix?

Hi Atom, is lettuce a good food ?

    • October 29, 2019 @ 11:41 pm Atom

Ray Peat doesn’t think so, but I beg to differ (although I rarely eat lettuce anymore).

A female friend of mine pretty much eats a head of iceberg lettuce a day, and is one of the fittest and strongest people I know.

Iceberg lettuce contains opioids, and is effective for pain.

Poor people in Juarez feed their babies lettuce juice when they can’t afford milk to stop the crying.

Hello Atom! Are there any “downsides” to eating a whole head of lettuce daily if it is eaten on solar time?

        • November 5, 2019 @ 3:30 pm Atom

          I suspect side effects.

That stated, my Canadian friend has been eating lots of iceberg lettuce on an almost-daily basis for decades, and is one of the fittest people I know.

She’s a gung-ho vegan, and we went on a Road Trip together.

It was tough keeping pace, hiking and swimming with her for an entire month.
