Cod Liver Oil Abuse

In one of my twelve Yellow Fat Disease e-books, I included medically documented cases of Yellow Fat Disease (Waxy Liver Disease) being caused by COD LIVER OIL (Friedrich Theodor Frerichs, M.D., A Clinical Treatise on Diseases of the Liver, Vol. 2, 1879).

Dr. Frerichs (1819-1885) was a German pathologist especially known for his research of liver and kidney diseases.

His warnings about the ongoing use of COD LIVER OIL were well known at the time.

Charles Murchison, M.D. (Clinical Lectures on Diseases of the Liver, Jaundice and Abdominal Dropsy, 1868) wrote …

“Cod-liver oil is of questionable utility; Frerichs states that he has known cases where waxy liver was developed under its continuous use.”

<>

Drs. Murchison (1830-1879) and Frerichs knew more about “the waxy, lardaceous, or amyloid liver” than today’s production-line almost-human graduates of corporate medical schools.

They — as well as many of their contemporary physicians — understood the significant difference between cirrhosis of the liver and yellow fat disease.

A waxy degenerated liver eventually assumes a “peculiar pink color,” similar to smoked ham or salmon, but the tissue is ANEMIC.

It stains YELLOW, but a fresh sample is PINK.

<>

Sir German Sims Woodhead (Practical Pathology: A Manual for Students and Practitioners, 1883) wrote …

“This rose pink is highly characteristic of the waxy degeneration, and picks out most accurately and minutely the diseased tissues.”
