While going to rabbinical school in Israel, Michael Shapiro volunteered to play guitar for the patients in a hospital.

He went from room to room, entertaining the patients.

He came to a room with only one occupant — an old man lying in a bed.

A doctor told Michael, “Don’t bother playing for this man. He’s old and he’s been in a coma for weeks. He’s getting worse, and we expect him to die within a few days.”

Michael said he’d like to play for him anyway. He did and the man opened his eyes a few songs later.

He jumped out of bed and danced, tears flowing from his eyes.
