A man phoned Adano Ley (Swami Nitty-Gritty) and said he was contemplating suicide.
Adano said, “Come over here and let’s talk about it, brother.”
The man showed up in Adano’s therapy chair still talking about suicide.
Adano walked into the kitchen and returned with a large knife.
“Here,” he said. “Use this.”
The man was taken aback, stammering, “Oh, no, I couldn’t stab myself with a knife! That would be too painful!”
Adano made a second trip to the kitchen.
This time he returned holding a bottle of pills in one hand and the knife in the other.
“Do you want it smooth or do you want it crude?” Adano asked.
The man laughed, and Adano observed, “I guess things aren’t so bad after all, are they?”
Adano related this story to our class at the Texas Institute of Reflex Sciences (TIRS), and student asked, “What would you have done if he’d taken the knife?”
“I would have thrown water on him – then he not only would have dropped the knife; he would’ve helped me mop up the water.”
Adano explained how our ego is tied up in our clothing.
He advised that if you sober up a drunk by putting him ina coldshower, be sure to leave his clothes on while doing so.
“Above all, my dear brothers and sisters, don’t practice suicide.” – Adano Ley
