Turtles & Teamsters Together At Last

Globalization is an issue capable of uniting Left and Right.

It already did during the Battle of Seattle — the 1999 protests against the World Trade Organization.

The rise of the PLANETARIAT was evidenced by the celebrated protest sign …

“Turtles and Teamsters Together At Last.”

<>

The Blue Green Alliance united the United Steelworkers and the Sierra Club in common causes …

“good jobs, a clean environment, and a green economy.”

Screw Big Oil and Big Energy and their “creative destruction” of Planet Earth.

<>

Globalization is colonization without colonies.

Cultures, forests, rivers, and oceans are being destroyed by it.

<>

Debt IS colonization.

The latest version of globaloney is the Marshall Plan on steroids, benefiting the latest generation of robber barons like Juan Trippe and Conrad Hilton.

If you were “educated” (brainwashed) in the U.S., you were exposed to the same BS about the Truman Plan as I was in junior high school and high school.

European Recovery Program, my elbow!

<>

Here’s hoping The Donald keeps his word and pulls out of the World Trade Organization.

Here’s hoping he imposes double-digit tariffs on every country in the world.

Here’s hoping he keeps his word and “rips up” the North American Free Trade Agreement.

<>

Remember the heady days of the Left-Right Convergence between Pat Buchanan and Ralph Nader?

Nader regards The Donald as “a failed gambling czar who’s a corporate welfare king” — BUT he applauds him for opposing globalization and “ending the Bush and Clinton dynasties.”

And how many Conservative Republicans other than Pat Buchanan would get drunk on Wild Turkey with gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson and argue politics with him?

Susan Ariel Aaronson (Taking Trade to the Streets: The Lost History of Public Efforts to Shape Globalization, 2001) wrote …

“This association of left and right is perhaps best illustrated by the working alliance among two key trade agreement critics in the United States, Ralph Nader (the noted consumer activist) and Pat Buchanan (the self-proclaimed ‘conservative of the heart’). Nader believes consumers must be citizen activists, always vigilant of business and government. Patrick J. Buchanan, in contrast, sees himself as a supporter of capitalism and a critic of big government. However, the two have found common ground in their belief that capitalism should serve the nation and not make the nation subservient to multinational corporations. Both men see the WTO as captured by such multinational business. They also agree as to how to remedy the problem. Both Nader and Buchanan want the United States to drop out of the WTO.

“Nader and Buchanan are not the only prominent American individuals or groups critical of trade agreements. The chorus of trade agreement critics includes the Rainbow Coalition, a nongovernmental organization concerned with racial equality issues; environmental groups such as the Sierra Club; and activist groups from the left (Greenpeace) and right (Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum). Prominent trade agreement opponents on the left include former California Governor Jerry Brown and former Texas Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower. On the more rightward side of the spectrum, H. Ross Perot (a data-processing billionaire) and Roger Milliken (a wealthy textile manufacturer and long-standing protectionist) have been willing to use their considerable wealth to educate their fellow Americans about the ‘costs’ of trade and trade agreements.”

Jerry Brown? Phyllis Schlafly? Jim Hightower? Roger Milliken? Together on an issue? Who woulda thunk it?

According to Donald Trump (June 28, 2016) …

“Our founding fathers understood trade much better than our current politicians, believe me.

“George Washington said that the promotion of domestic manufacturing will be among the first consequences to flow from an energetic government. Alexander Hamilton spoke frequently of the expediency of encouraging manufacturing in, in, in the United States.

“And listen to this. The first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, warned that, quote, ‘the abandonment of the protective policy by the American government will produce want and ruin among our people.’ He understood it much better than our current politicians, that’s why he was Abraham Lincoln, I guess.

“Our original Constitution did not even have an income tax. Instead, it had tariffs emphasizing taxation of foreign, not domestic, production.

“Yet today, 240 years after the Revolution, we’ve turned things completely upside down. We tax and regulate and restrict our companies to death and then we allow foreign countries that cheat to export their goods to us tax-free. How stupid is this? How could it happen? How stupid is this?”

Stop the Nano-Invasion Of Planet Earth #4 …

Mi-Gyeong Kim, Joo Yeon Park, Yuna Shon, Gunwoo Kim, Gayong Shim, & Yu-Kyoung Oh (Nanotechnology and vaccine development,” Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Science, Oct. 2014) wrote …

“Despite the progress of conventional vaccines, improvements are clearly required due to concerns about the weak immunogenicity of these vaccines, intrinsic instability in vivo, toxicity, and the need for multiple administrations. To overcome such problems, nanotechnology platforms have recently been incorporated into vaccine development. Nanocarrier-based delivery systems offer an opportunity to enhance the humoral and cellular immune responses. This advantage is attributable to the nanoscale particle size, which facilitates uptake by phagocytic cells, the gut-associated lymphoid tissue, and the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, leading to efficient antigen recognition and presentation. Modifying the surfaces of nanocarriers with a variety of targeting moieties permits the delivery of antigens to specific cell surface receptors, thereby stimulating specific and selective immune responses.”

“You live on a tiny wet ball in space, a sphere rotating on its axis in a twenty-four-hour period relative to the sun. Exposed as you are to this daily changing environment of light, temperature, and humidity, it follows that many of your organs and habits are adjusted to a twenty-four-hour schedule.”

Barry Commoner (“Unraveling the DNA Myth: The spurious foundation of genetic engineering,” Harper’s Magazine, Feb. 2002) wrote …

“The wonders of genetic science are founded on the discovery of the DNA double helix — by Francis Crick and James Watson in 1953 — and they proceed from the premise that this molecular structure is the exclusive agent of inheritance in all living things: in the kingdom of molecular genetics, the DNA gene is absolute monarch. Known to molecular biologists as the ‘central dogma,’ the premise assumes that an organism’s genome — its total complement of DNA genes — should fully account for its characteristic assemblage of inherited traits. The premise, unhappily, is false. Tested between 1990 and 2001 in one of the largest and most highly publicized scientific undertakings of our time, the Human Genome Project, the theory collapsed under the weight of fact. There are far too few human genes to account for the complexity of our inherited traits or for the vast inherited differences between plants, say, and people. By any reasonable measure, the finding […] signaled the downfall of the central dogma; it also destroyed the scientific foundation of genetic engineering and the validity of the biotechnology industry’s widely advertised claim that its methods of genetically modifying food crops are ‘specific, precise, and predictable’ and therefore safe. In short, the most dramatic achievement to date of the $3 billion Human Genome Project is the refutation of its own scientific rationale.”

    carbon for the butt
    silicon for the genitals
    sulfur for the abdomen
    methane for the thy will

Is this correct hierarchy in your estimation, Atom?

Carbon for the anus, silicon for the genitals, sulfur for the uterus (or prostatic utricle in a man), and methane for the heart (via methane-producing bacteria in the small intestine). :-D
