It’s not “What’s the matter with you?”
It’s “Who’s the matter with you?”
Just like the Abbott and Costello routine …
“Who’s on first.”
“What’s on second.”
When someone presents me with a “dis-ease,” I ask, “WHO’S the matter with you?”
Then I ask, “WHEN’S the matter with you?”
Finally I get to, “WHAT’S the matter with you?”
Swami Satchidananda said at a 1990 lecture …
“Disease is nothing but disturbed ease. Ask yourself, ‘What did I do to disturb my ease? […] There’s no greater power than your own mind. Everything that happens in the world is because of the mind.”
Swamiji then told the story of the plumber who Roto-Rooted his own heart with his mind.
Illness occurs when mind kidnaps physiology (health) and immunity (divinity).
Adnan Sarhan, my Sufi teacher, warned …
“If you don’t guard your intellect against your intellect, you will be destroyed by your intellect.”
Adano Ley (Swami Nitty-Gritty) used the term ATG for “attention-getting syndrome,” and Ramon Solis, M.D., coined ANB for “attention-needing behavior.”
Adano’s other term for ATG was “conditional functioning.”
Adano cautioned …
“ATG is the worst disease in the world, even worse than AIDS. Even God suffers from it.”
